Mountain Pointe's feeder team for incoming freshmen, "MP Warriors," will have tryouts on Wednesday May 6th and Friday May 8th from 4:45pm to 6:15pm at the Mountain Pointe baseball fields.
Eighteen games make up each team's official AIA (Arizona Interscholastic Association) schedule that determines the Arizona Division I rankings. The top twenty-four ranked teams will go on to play in the state tournament beginning on May 2 with the top eight teams earning a first round bye. The Pride team is 6-4 after the first ten of these games and needs a strong finish against eight quality opponents beginning tomorrow with a home game against rival Hamilton High School.
Come out and support Mountain Pointe Baseball over the remaining schedule:
Thank you to all the Pride players and families who were able to participate in Christmas Angels. This was one of the largest groups we have had volunteer. There were nearly seventy players who showed up to shop and the amount of money you all donated was enough to provide gifts for the 12 children and a laundry basket of household stuff and $25.00 Fry's Gift Card for each family.
After finishing up his tremendous high school career this year, Cole signed very quickly with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was assigned to the GCL Pirates of the Gulf Coast League Rookie Level in Bradenton, Florida. Cole picked up his first professional base hit on June 24 and he turns 18 next week.
Jordan graduated from Mountain Pointe in 2011 and spent two years at Central Arizona before transferring to TCU for this past season where he was a big part of TCU's push into the College World Series. After signing with the Angels he was assigned to the Orem Owlz, a Pioneer League Rookie Level team. Ironically, his first pro manager is the former Pride pitching coach Dave Stapleton. Jordan made his first professional appearance on June 28.
This was the third time that Jordan was drafted. In 2011 he was selected in the 39th round by the Dodgers and then he was selected in the 30th round by the Phillies in 2012.
Kevin also graduated from Mountain Pointe after the state championship season of 2011 in which he obliterated many career and single season hitting records. After spending three years at TCU and following their elimination in the CWS in Omaha, Kevin decided to continue his baseball career as a professional in the Diamondbacks organization. Kevin was assigned to the Missoula Osprey, another Pioneer League Rookie Level team. Kevin hit a homerun in the first pro game he played in on June 24.
In 2011 Kevin was drafted in the 3rd round by the Seattle Mariners.
After an amazing year, congratulations to Cole Tucker for topping it all off, selected today by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round of Major League Baseball's 2014 First-Year Player Draft. Cole was selected as the twenty-fourth overall pick out of all eligible high school and college players in the country.
